David Stanton, Tinney Chapel Certified Lay Speaker, Completes Go Preach Advanced Class
David Stanton Keeps Ahead Of The Game As A Certified Lay Speaker
Tinney Chapel's busiest Certified Lay Speaker, David Stanton (he is also an NTC District Officer), is not content to wait until he is required to take the next Advanced Class to keep his certification active.
After all, when the deadline actually arrives, at least once every three years, David might be on a cruise sailing the other side of the world.
That's why he registered for, and has just completed, the Go Preach Advanced Class, taught this year by Ben Bennett, Lay Leader for the East District of the North Texas Conference (NTC).
In addition to the certificate shown in the accompanying photo, David received an inscribed copy of the new Common English Translation of the New Testament from Bennett upon successful completion of this demanding Class, which requires, among other things, that students select a Scripture from the Lectionary, write a sermon based on that Scripture and then deliver that sermon for evaluation and critique by the teacher and fellow class members.
FYI: This means that David now has a freshly minted sermon in his back pocket which he can deliver at the drop of a hat, or upon invitation.
As it happens, he also has an invitation: Wesley UMC of Sulphur Springs has asked David to preach at their church on Laity Sunday later this year.
Congratulations to David Stanton, one of five Certified Lay Speakers at the quintessential country church. The others are Angela Wylie, Roger Schneider, Paulette Sterling and Joe Dan Boyd.
