Tinney Chapel
United Methodist Church invites the public, through the press, to its third
Praise & Gospel Night concert: Saturday, Jan. 19, 6:30 pm in the church’s
modern and spacious family life center at 449 CR 4620 just off FM 312, two
miles south of Winnsboro.
Host band for the
event is the Tinney Chapel Troubadours, a praise band led by the church’s
Pastor, Rev. Carl Sterling, who is an accomplished singer-guitarist, and also
includes two well-known local singer-songwriters, George Jordan and Kevin
Tinney. Other Troubadours include Roger Schneider, Joe Dan Boyd, and Daniel Craft.
Out-of-town bands
that have been invited include J.R. & Bonnie Pilson, Snow Hill and several
others. Local Winnsboro groups have been invited to participate.
Although a
voluntary love offering will be taken for missions, admission is free to this
concert, which is part of Brother Carl Sterling’s brand of outreach ministry.
“We expect to
continue hosting monthly Praise & Gospel Night concerts at Tinney Chapel,
the quintessential country church,” explains Rev. Sterling, who has also hosted
a Back To School Cookout, a Breakfast For WISD Teachers at Memorial School and
a free community Christmas Dinner since his appointment last June to Tinney
Chapel UMC.
Tinney Chapel was
established in February 1900, by a land grant from Ambrose Tinney, a cotton
farmer who moved here in 1886 from Alabama.
Tinney Chapel has
twice been awarded the Marvin T. Judy award for excellence in rural ministry
(2002 and 2004) in UMC’s North Texas Conference, which extends from Bogota to
Burkburnett.
